Founded in 2007 and based in the city of San Juan in the foothills of the Andes, UPCN (Union del Personal Civil de la Nacion - the National Union of Civil Servants) have dominated the scene both domestically and as representatives of Argentina abroad.
The reigning national champions have won the Argentina League a total of six times, as well as claiming three Cup titles.
After finishing third in their first appearance in 2010, UPCN lost two South American Club Championship finals in 2011 (to Brazil’s SESI Sao Paulo) and 2012 (to Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro Contagem). They eventually claimed their first continental title in 2013, beating Minas Tênis Clube in the final in Sao Paulo. They followed up with another silver when they lost in 2014 to Sada Cruzeiro, before securing their second gold with a five-set win at home over Sada Cruzeiro in 2015.
In the 2016 edition, UPCN were knocked out in the semifinals in straight sets by Sada Cruzeiro, but went on to beat Personal Bolivar in an all-Argentina bronze medal game.
After a fourth-place finish in 2013 in Betim, UPCN picked up two bronze medals in the 2014 (in Belo Horizonte) and 2015 (again in Betim) editions of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship with five-set wins in the third-place playoffs on both occasions - against Sada Cruzeiro and Iran’s Paykan Tehran respectively.
