Minas Tênis Clube is a historical Brazilian club, founded in 1937 in the city of Belo Horizonte with a very strong volleyball tradition stretching back for decades.
They won the South American Club Championship twice in the 1980s in addition to a couple of silver medals.
After a fourth-place finish in 2009, Minas got a shot at the title in 2013, but lost in the final at home in straight sets to Argentina’s UPCN San Juan. They won the bronze medal the very next year again in Belo Horizonte.
Domestically, Minas have been crowned national champions seven times, including four times since the Superleague was set up in the mid-1990s. Minas ranked 7th in the 2015-16 season, after bowing out in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
They are making their debut appearance in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship.
