Team profile

Bolivar

Club Ciudad de Bolivar, from the town of San Carlos de Bolivar, southwest of Buenos Aires, are making their second FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship appearance, after finishing fourth in 2010 in Doha.
Since their foundation in 2007, Bolivar have won the national title in Argentina five times - although they have been on a dry spell since 2010.
That same year they also won their sole South American Club Championship title, which they hosted at home.
In the 2015-16 Argentina League season Bolivar finished runners-up to UPCN San Juan after losing the last match in the best-of-five playoffs final series in four sets. Previously they had lost to UPCN in straight sets in the bronze medal of the South American Club Championship.

Javier Weber

Javier Weber

Highlights of Javier Weber’s playing career include a bronze medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and gold at the 1995 Pan American Games. The Argentinian played at clubs in his home country, in Italy and Brazil before moving into a coaching role. In 2005/2006, he coached Panathinaikos to victory in the Greek League, and in 2007/2008, 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 was champion of the Argentine club league with Personal Bolívar. He led Bolivar to success in the 2010 edition of the South American Championship and also coached Argentina at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
