Zenit Kazan claim Russian Super Cup victory

Matt Anderson was a key player for Zenit Kazan against Dinamo Moscow

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 28, 2016 - Zenit Kazan are yet to win the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship, but after finishing second in last year's edition and winning the 2016 edition of the European Champions League, they will be among the favourites to win this year's global competition. Their third consecutive Russian Super Cup victory last night certainly saw them in good form, defeating opponents Dinamo Moscow 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15).

Speaking after the encounter, Zenit Kazan coach Vladimir Alekno said: "There was a lot of excitement before the game because of the uneven availability of players. We compensated for this situation by showing great dedication and desire. Today [Matt] Anderson performed really well and it did not show that he only had three weeks of training. He said he could play and did not disappoint us. Physically, he was well prepared."

Zenit Kazan libero Alexey Verbov added: "When Zenit Kazan play with concentration until the last ball, any team will find it difficult to deal with us. We did not relax for a second. We put pressure on the opponent in all areas, not making errors, even in difficult situations. Very few mistakes. We have got a strong team."

Zenit Kazan will play the opening match of the Men's Club World Championship on October 18 when they take on Tala'ea El-Geish of Egypt at 14.30 local time.
