World champions to begin title defence against Asian champions

 

Sada Cruzeiro take on Taichung Bank on Tuesday

Betim, Brazil, October 14, 2016 - Reigning world and South American club champions Sada Cruzeiro of Contagem embark on their quest to defend their world title against the 2015 Asian club champions at the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship on Tuesday.

In the only previous match between a Chinese Taipei and a Brazilian team, Banespa Sao Paulo beat Taiwan Power in straight sets in 1991 at Porto Alegre.

Taichung Bank are the first and only Chinese Taipei team to have won the Asian club championship.

Sada Cruzeiro
- Sada Cruzeiro are making their fifth appearance in the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship after a silver medal in their 2012 debut in Doha and a couple of golds in 2013 and 2015, both in Betim.
- This is the club's 20th match in the history of the competition, where they hold a 12-7 win-lose record.

Taichung Bank
- Taichung Bank are making their debut in the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.
- They are the second club from Chinese Taipei to take part in the competition, after Taiwan Power finished 5th in the 1991 edition in Sao Paulo.
