Trentino rely on power trio to defeat host Minas Tenis Clube

Trentino's Jan Stokr overpowers Minas double block as the Italian side pulled off a 3-0 win

Betim, Brazil, October 19, 2016 - Combining the efforts of Tine Urnaut, Jan Stokr and captain Filippo Lanza, Italian former champions Trentino enjoyed a positive first match at 2016 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship, downing Minas Tenis Clube 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-23).

Slovenian Urnaut rocketed 12 points to earn the title of top scorer, supported with teammates Lanza and Stokr who were leveled with 11 points each. The same 11-point total was held by Minas’ main weapon - Cuban Yordan Bisset Astengo.

Trentino evidenced a larger share of experience as they kept the lead throughout the entire game, even with Minas pushing their way through. Local team was very close to the tie in the first set, but key player Urnaut unveiled a decisive block to secure the scores.

After a second set with Trentino even more in control and Bisset as the only prolific player in Minas, the next and final one restored the flow. With reserve players Willian and Thiago Vanole jumping onto the court, the Brazilian side again charged strongly, but Trentino achieved a minimum margin and closed the match.
