Betim, Brazil, October 21, 2016 - Pool B leaders Trentino will have to close group stage against the first team that have defeated them at Club World Champs and the one that pushed them to the longest match ever at the competition: Argentina's UPCN San Juan.
UPCN was the team who snapped a 21-match winning streak from Trentino, four-time champions and unbeaten at the time, in pool play in 2013. One year later, they featured the longest match so far of the tournament - a five-setter that went on for 2 hours and 21 minutes, with a 3rd set 38-36 that's also record on scoring and duration (41min).
This is the fourth time that the two clubs clash at the FIVB Club World Championships. Trentino beat UPCN in four sets in 2013 here in Betim for bronze and again in five sets in 2014 in pool play in Belo Horizonte. UPCN's only win was the one mentioned in 2013, also in five sets.
- Their current record at the competition is 9-7 on win-loss numbers.
Trentino Diatec
- Trentino are making a record seventh appearance in an FIVB Club World Championship. Only two other teams (Sada Cruzeiro of Brazil and Zenit Kazan of Russia) have competed five times.
- Trentino also top the medals table with four gold (all consecutively from 2009 until 2012 in Doha). They also picked up a bronze in 2013 in Betim.
- Despite being Pool B leaders with two wins and no losses, they still need to avoid a wide loss to advance to the final phase.
