David against Goliath to close day 2 in Betim

 

Betim, Brazil, October 19, 2016 - African sides have never defeated a Brazil club in five matches in the history of the FIVB Club World Championship and reigning African champions Tala'ea El-Geish of Cairo will have to overcome that trend if they're to make anything out of their match against defending world champions Sada Cruzeiro.

Sada Cruzeiro
- Sada Cruzeiro are making their fifth appearance in the FIVB Club World Championship after a silver medal in their 2012 debut in Doha and a couple of gold in 2013 and 2015 both in Betim.
- This is the club's 21st match in the history of the competition.
- Sada Cruzeiro have met an African club only once before in the history of the competition, when they beat Sfaxien of Tunisia in straight sets in 2013 in Betim.

Tala'ea El-Geish

- Tala'ea El Geish of Cairo are making their debut in the FIVB Club World Championship, after claiming the continental club title in Africa for the first time in 2016.
- They are the seventh African team to represent the continent in the competition and third of Egypt after Al-Ahly and Zamalek. ASP Mahad of Algeria, as well as Club Africain Tunis, Sfaxien Tunis and Esperance Tunis have also taken part.
- The best finish historically by an African club in the competition is 5th on numerous occasions.
